Ok, so I know I’m late to the game on this, but whatever.
So season 8 ends in what I think is probably the first time I think they’ve ended the season on a somewhat stupid note. Yes, using the time travel machine discovered in this is season was inevitable, but did they really have to do it in such a poor manner? I love me some Stargate. I think it’s one of the best sci-fi shows I’ve ever had the privilege of watching because it’s so internally consistent both with it’s sci-fi elements and it’s narrative elements. The show plays out storylines to their proper conclusions and doesn’t forget things. I love that.
But why oh why did they have to do it like that? Seriously Mobieus Parts 1 and 2 are the weakest season ender and two parter of the series (unless there is something worse in the following two seasons I’ve yet to watch). There are no real consequences for their work and they recycle what would have been a perfectly good way to close the season in the episode Threads. Threads would have been a great place to stop with all major storylines tied up and a nice happy ending for all of their work. It just seems weak to use it again on a story that was of essentially no consequence other than the ZPM in Ra’s control being recovered.
I’m reminded of how I felt when David Tennant’s run as the Doctor was complete. The ending to Season 4 with everyone coming together to fight the Daleks one last time and see how everyone gets to have their own reward ending that tied up their stories would have been a perfectly good place for the Doctor to regenerate, but no they had to do four lame tv movies before finishing with Tennant. I loved Tennant as the Doctor, but they gave him a proper send-off with Season 4 finale. It was just wrong to try to continue on after that.
It reminded me of that because I know Jack O’Neil is about to not be apart of the regular cast. Did they really have to do these two lame duck episodes which kind of ruin the nice ending they gave him and all the major story arcs in the previous episode?
